Grace Williams – New Niswonger Scholar – Heads Food Drive
Steve Hawkins with WCYB-TV 5 recently opened his report with the good news that “On Tuesday morning before Thanksgiving, students at Bristol’s Tennessee High School were busy packing Thanksgiving boxes. Each year the student council puts together a Thanksgiving food drive. The items are collected by student clubs and athletics and are delivered to needy families in the area. Each box included a turkey and all the trimmings for a Thanksgiving meal.”
Grace Williams, THS student council president, told reporter Angela Yingling, “The best thing about this drive is that these boxes are delivered to our own students and their families at Tennessee High and the elementary schools. These are students we go to school with everyday who won’t get to have a Thanksgiving without this food drive. We feel so blessed to be able to make a difference.”
Student Council organized the clubs, sports, classes, administrators and teachers to collect food, pack and organize the boxes and deliver 65 Thanksgiving boxes to the BTCS families. Five additional boxes were delivered to the Haven of Rest and with the remaining food they we were able to re-stock Tennessee High’s resource center used during the year for families in need.
Much thanks to THS student council officers, Grace Williams, Kristen Rose, Arynn Carswell, Taylor Miller, Alex Schwob, Emily Hall and Wilson Adams along with their sponsors, Ms. Kim Bright, Ms. Heather Ringstaff, Mr. Richard Reece, and Ms. Kay Ward for their diligent effort to work and give to their community. As a result of their hard work, hundreds of teens participated in this major annual altruistic project. Student council thanks everyone who participated!
