Dr. Sherry Cockerham has served as a district math curriculum coach and high school math teacher for Johnson City Schools, retiring with over 30 years of teaching and coaching experience in both urban and rural settings at the middle school, high school, and collegiate levels in Tennessee and Kentucky. She was named Johnson City Schools’ Teacher of the Year in 2007.
Engaged at the state level as an Instructional Coach, she held positions on numerous committees with the Tennessee Department of Education. She earned her BS in mathematics from Eastern Kentucky University, MS in mathematics from East Tennessee State University, EdS from Lincoln Memorial University, and her EdD from University of the Cumberlands, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Sherry resides in Carter County with her spouse, Steve, professor emeritus in Counseling and Human Services from East Tennessee State University.
The Niswonger Foundation was established in 2001 to make a positive and sustainable difference in education in Northeast Tennessee. This dream was envisioned by Scott M. Niswonger, who founded Landair Transport, Inc. and Forward Air Corporation. These companies were the first two Greeneville-based companies to be taken public in the history of Greene County, Tennessee.
