Dr. David Burgin lives in Johnson City with his wife and daughter where he has taught at Science Hill High School since 1992. Prior to moving to Johnson City, David taught in a Middle School in Jacksonville, Florida. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee, his Masters in Education from Tusculum, and his Doctorate from East Tennessee State University in 2003. At Science Hill he primarily teaches AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics, Economics and Government. He has served on the Test Development Committee for the AP Microeconomics Exam, is a consultant for curriculum development, and spoke at the AP National Convention in 2016. Dr. Burgin also taught Sociology and serves as an Adjunct Professor at ETSU where he primarily works with people aspiring to become educators. Through the Niswonger Foundation, Dr. Burgin has taught Economics, Sociology, and Government.
The Niswonger Foundation was established in 2001 to make a positive and sustainable difference in education in Northeast Tennessee. This dream was envisioned by Scott M. Niswonger, who founded Landair Transport, Inc. and Forward Air Corporation. These companies were the first two Greeneville-based companies to be taken public in the history of Greene County, Tennessee. Jointly, the companies have combined annual revenue of over one-billion-dollars and employ more than 5000 people.
