A native of Erwin, Chris graduated as valedictorian from Unicoi County High School. He is the son of Scott and Diane Brown. Chris earned his degree in English and secondary education from East Tennessee State University. He served as the Unicoi County High School varsity defensive coordinator, the head Unicoi County Middle School track and field coach, and as the head 7th grade men’s basketball coach.
Chris is Defensive Coordinator for the Baylor School, in Chattanooga. Previously, he was Dean of Students and Head Football Coach at Red Bank High School and taught Honors 10 English there and at Ooltewah High School. He taught seventh grade language arts at Unicoi County Middle School in Erwin, and he taught at East Lake Academy of Fine Arts. He was named “Teacher of the Year” for 2016-17 by the Chattanooga Rotary Club. He completed his Masters in Educational Leadership with Administrative License earning a 4.o GPA at Carson-Newman University. He and his wife Joli are the proud parents of a daughter, Adelyn Rose. They reside in Chattanooga.
The Niswonger Foundation was established in 2001 to make a positive and sustainable difference in education in Northeast Tennessee. This dream was envisioned by Scott M. Niswonger, who founded Landair Transport, Inc. and Forward Air Corporation. These companies were the first two Greeneville-based companies to be taken public in the history of Greene County, Tennessee. Jointly, the companies have combined annual revenue of over one-billion-dollars and employ more than 5000 people.
