Dr. Vicki Kirk retired from a career in education June 30, 2021. In the years preceding her retirement she served as the Superintendent of Tennessee Schools for the Deaf (TSD). She came to the TSD as interim Superintendent in March of 2018 and was appointed permanent, full-time Superintendent in January 2019. Dr. Kirk served as Tennessee’s Deputy Commissioner and Chief Academic Officer under Commissioner Candice McQueen from April 2015 until December 2018. Prior to her service at the Tennessee Department of Education, Vicki served as Director of Schools in Greene County from 2005 – 2010. She also worked with Greeneville City Schools for 19 years as a teacher, assistant principal, and assistant superintendent. Dr. Kirk holds a bachelor’s degree in medical technology, a Master of Arts in Teaching, and an Ed.D in educational leadership and policy analysis, all from East Tennessee State University.
Vicki and her husband, Michael reside in Greeneville and have two adult sons, Ben (Meg) and Robert, and grandchildren, Lyra Jeanne and Olen James.
The Niswonger Foundation was established in 2001 to make a positive and sustainable difference in education in Northeast Tennessee. This dream was envisioned by Scott M. Niswonger, who founded Landair Transport, Inc. and Forward Air Corporation. These companies were the first two Greeneville-based companies to be taken public in the history of Greene County, Tennessee. Jointly, the companies have combined annual revenue of over one-billion-dollars and employ more than 5000 people.
