Matthew Hunter Widener

Matthew, son of Randal and Deena Widener, graduated in the top ten percent of the class at David Crockett High School. During his time there, he was the president of the Creative Writing Club, Sergeant-At-Arms of the Drama Club, and a member of the French Club, Key Club, and Beta Club. He assisted in teaching the Creative Writing class during his junior and senior years. He has taken part in several charity events, such as Antioch Baptist’s “Love Out Loud” and the annual clean-up of downtown Jonesborough.

Matthew earned a degree in English and Secondary Education from East Tennessee State University. He accepted a teaching position with David Crockett High School. He would like to someday run for political office in his community.

The Niswonger Foundation was established in 2001 to make a positive and sustainable difference in education in Northeast Tennessee. This dream was envisioned by Scott M. Niswonger, who founded Landair Transport, Inc. and Forward Air Corporation. These companies were the first two Greeneville-based companies to be taken public in the history of Greene County, Tennessee. Jointly, the companies have combined annual revenue of over one-billion-dollars and employ more than 5000 people.
