Matthew Hunter Widener

Matthew, son of Randal and Deena Widener, graduated in the top ten percent of the class at David Crockett High School. During his time there, he was the president of the Creative Writing Club, Sergeant-At-Arms of the Drama Club, and a member of the French Club, Key Club, and Beta Club. He assisted in teaching the Creative Writing class during his junior and senior years.

He graduated summa cum laude from East Tennessee State University earning a degree in English and Secondary Education license. While at ETSU, Matthew was an Admissions Ambassador, worked as a student tutor and mentor with the TRIO Program, participated in the German Language Club, and supported the efforts of the theater department. After graduating, Matthew taught at David Crocket High School for 4 years. He accepted a position at OmniSource as a non-ferrous lead person, safety coach, and mentor.  In his free time he pursues traditional archery, HEMA saber practice, marksmanship, hiking, hunting, and writing.

    The Niswonger Foundation was established in 2001 to make a positive and sustainable difference in education in Northeast Tennessee. This dream was envisioned by Scott M. Niswonger, who founded Landair Transport, Inc. and Forward Air Corporation. These companies were the first two Greeneville-based companies to be taken public in the history of Greene County, Tennessee. Jointly, the companies have combined annual revenue of over one-billion-dollars and employ more than 5000 people.
